Best Face Masks for Your Skin Type

Best Face Masks for Your Skin Type

Face masks have become an integral part of my skincare. Once I started taking my selfcare routine seriously my face mask game went up a notch.

Face masks have come a long way in the past few years and now with sheet masks, sleeping masks, peel masks and others on the market there’s guaranteed to be something out there to help fix any skin issue you may be facing.

My skin can be a rollercoaster with some days it being dry, sometimes oily, and worst of all it can break out. Luckily face masks come to the rescue. With so many skin types it can be hard to know which face mask is the right fit for you. After all, not all face masks are created equally and our skin isn’t one size fits all. I’m breaking down what to look for in a face mask for your skin type and some of the best out there to make your search a bit easier for your next self care night. A small disclaimer I am no dermatologist so try these at your own risk but from my own personal experience some of these masks have been a life-saver.

Dry

Some days our skin just needs some tlc especially on days when it feels dry like the Sahara. Hyaluronic acid, squalene, and vitamin e are going to be your new best friend. These ingredients help with hydrating the skin and penetrating deeper to provide that extra moisture. They also help rebuild the natural skin barrier.

My skin drinks up the The Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream mask like no other. I also love that its on Sephora’s clean skincare list. I turn to it when I’ve over done it with exfoliating or have dry patches. It’s labelled as an overnight mask but I tend to wear it a few hours before bed then rinse so it doesn’t smear all over my pillow.

These masks get the job done and leave you nice and plump again.

Oily

Unlike dry, oily skin types produce an excess of oil. Pores can easily get clogged and dead skin cells can accumulate. You can’t go wrong with any of Summer Fridays products and their overtime mask is no different. After the success of their jet lag mask they created this clarifying version with pumpkin and apricot powder that really helps decongest without damaging the skin. I’ve included a few others that aren’t too harsh yet help rebalance the skin to its healthy natural state.

Combo

Look at you, you got the best of both worlds. I am right there with you, I also have a mix of oily and dry skin. Having this skin type can be a challenge because one mask face might not hit all the criteria you’re looking for. Here’s where double masking comes in. Using two masks in different sections of your skin can help give each area what it’s needing. It may seem like a lot of work but its not as complicated as it sounds. I stuck a few brightening masks into this section because I find them to typically be a happy middle ground of not too drying and not too hydrating.

When I was in the market for a brightening face mask for my left over acne hyperpigmentation the blue tansy mask fit the bill. This mask is great at brightening as it has AHA and BHA which helps to exfoliate and brighten the skin without any of the little itty bitty beads we’ve all come to hate.

Acne Prone

Acne is a difficult balancing act. Our skin can be finicky sometimes and react negatively to certain ingredients. It’s best to go off of what you have learned about your individual skin but there can always be something that works better that you just haven’t discovered yet. I love a good face mask for when I’m breaking out. It just sucks all the gunk out of your pores and gives it a fresh start. I came across the aztec clay mask years ago through amazon before it really took off and it has been my go to ever since.

When it comes to the Aztec Secret Clay mask this mask doesn’t mess around. This mask is STRONG and definitely not for the faint hearted. It comes as a powder and you mix it with water and/or apple cider vinegar until it becomes a paste. I apply it with a brush because the clay can get messy and get under your nails. I highly recommend moisturizing afterwards, your skin will need it.

Let me know in the comments what skin type you have and the face masks you swear by!
